My Must See Movies This Winter:

-The Descendants

-We Need To Talk About Kevin

-Shame

-Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy- I’ve been waiting for this one for months. The reviews have been fantastic. A sure Best Picture nominee.

-Carnage

-The Artist

-Hugo

-A Dangerous Method- Gotta get my Cronenberg fix.

Yes, I’m sure I’ll see The Muppets (based on the remarkable response), Mission Impossible, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and probably a few others, but if you’re going to solidify your chances of seeing the most Best Picture nominees, this list is probably a good place to start.

2001: A Space Odyssey is not just a film. It is one of the greatest artistic masterpieces of the 20th century.

I thought…

watching The Silence of the Lambs right before bed might be a bad idea. Yep…..

On another note, I forgot just how impactful Anthony Hopkins’ first appearance was. When he moves out of the shadows into the light, you don’t even need to know the background of the character. He just scares the crap out of you. The way Jonathan Demme used lighting in that cell to enhance the endemic evil in Lecter was absolutely remarkable. Also, if I could, I would probably post the entire screenplay.

I find myself….

with a serious craving to watch Cinema Paradiso tonight. What makes someone want to commit 173 minutes to a film (that is if you watch the Director’s Cut, which you should)? It is a magical movie experience. Just take my word for it.

Or maybe I’m just in the mood for something foreign, mentally stimulating, and fantastic. La Dolce Vita anyone?

It’s a serious love affair. Just go with it.

Is it too much to ask for an adorable, English understanding, gourmet French food making rat?

Hannah: “Why did he cut off your Netflix?”
Dad:” So he would focus on studying instead of becoming a film historian.
True story
John Anderton: [about Witwer’s father] What does he think about your chosen line of work?
Danny Witwer: I don’t know. He was shot and killed when I was 15 on the steps of our church in Dublin. I know what it’s like to lose someone close, John. ‘Course, nothing is like the loss of a child. I don’t have any children of my own, so I can only imagine what that must’ve been like. To lose your son - in such a public place like that. At least now you and I have the chance to make sure that kind of thing doesn’t happen to anyone…
John Anderton: Why don’t you cut the cute act, Danny boy, and tell me exactly what it is you’re looking for?
Danny Witwer: Flaws.
John Anderton: There hasn’t been a murder in 6 years. There’s nothing wrong with the system, it is perfect.
Danny Witwer: [simultaneously] - perfect. I agree. But if there’s a flaw, it’s human. It always is.

-Minority Report

I love the intenstiy in this film.

Also, “Moon River” is in this movie, contributing to it’s awesomeness.
